SUMMARY:
What they left behind is an artefact analysis and object handling program using genuine First World War objects from the Hurstville City Library Museum & Gallery collection. Students learn how to ask the right questions of objects to garner information about the past. Working in small groups, students analyse a number of objects related to a particular local soldier and put together a profile based on the information that they reveal. Worksheets are included.
FOCUS QUESTIONS:
-
How are historical objects handled correctly?
-
What information can objects reveal about the past?
-
How reliable are objects as primary sources?
-
What was the experience of Australian soldiers in WWI?
