MODULES – OVERVIEW

 

Hurstville City Library Museum & Gallery Anzac Education modules include:

 

1. DECEPTION & DISGUISE (30 mins)

This module investigates the design and use of ‘camouflage trees’ as observation posts on the Western Front during the First World War.

 

2. TRAINING DAY (30 mins)
An active, outdoor program focussed on the experience of Australian soldiers in training camps and in Egypt.

 

3. POSTCARDS FROM THE FRONT (30 mins)

A source analysis and soldier profiling workshop using the correspondence between local soldier Private Henry Mayer and his family in Mortdale.

 

4. WHAT THEY LEFT BEHIND (30 mins)

An artefact analysis and object handling program using genuine First World War objects from the Hurstville City Library Museum & Gallery collection.

 

5. REMEMBERING THEM (30 mins)

This module explores the objects, documents, images and personal stories within Hurstville Museum & Gallery’s Anzac exhibition, ‘Remembering them: People of St George & the First World War.’

 

6. VETERAN VOICES (30 mins)

In Veteran voices, students explore personal perspectives on the First World War using extracts from the oral histories of local serviceman or their families.

 

7. ORAL HISTORY WORKSHOP (90 mins)

Oral history workshops include the Veteran voices module (30 mins), an introduction to the ethics and protocols of undertaking oral history interviews (20 mins), followed by a presentation from a local returned service member or relative (40 mins).
